Student Standards

All members of Steel Crown Historical Fencing are expected to uphold the following standards in training, competition, and their conduct within the club community.

1. Respect for Training Partners

Students are expected to treat everyone — including fellow members, instructors, opponents, guests, and event staff — with respect at all times.

This includes:

  • Maintaining professionalism during training
  • Accepting correction respectfully
  • Avoiding hostile or demeaning behavior
  • Contributing positively to the training environment

Disagreements and competitive intensity are expected in fencing, but personal hostility and unnecessary conflict are not.

2. Safety First

Safety is the responsibility of every participant.

Students are expected to:

  • Follow instructor direction during drills and sparring
  • Use appropriate protective equipment
  • Calibrate intensity responsibly
  • Maintain control of their weapon
  • Stop immediately if unsafe conditions arise

Reckless behavior, uncontrolled strikes, or intentionally unsafe conduct will not be tolerated.

3. Sportsmanship and Conduct

Students are expected to conduct themselves with integrity both inside and outside the training hall.

This includes:

  • Winning and losing respectfully
  • Avoiding excessive ego or disruptive behavior
  • Acknowledging mistakes honestly
  • Representing the club professionally at all times

Competitive drive is encouraged. Poor sportsmanship is not.

4. Commitment to Growth

Students are expected to approach training with humility, discipline, and a willingness to improve.

Progress requires:

  • Consistent effort
  • Openness to feedback
  • Respect for the learning process
  • Patience with both personal development and the development of others

Every member was once a beginner, and no member has learned everything there is to learn. More experienced students are encouraged to lead by example, support those who are newer, and approach their own training with the same humility they once brought to their first class.

5. Respect for the Training Environment

Students are expected to help maintain the training space and club equipment.

This includes:

  • Cleaning up after classes and events
  • Treating borrowed equipment responsibly
  • Respecting venue rules and shared spaces

The condition and reputation of the training environment reflects the professionalism of the club as a whole.

7. Community Responsibility

Steel Crown Historical Fencing is built through shared effort and mutual support.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Help foster a welcoming environment
  • Support fellow members
  • Contribute positively to club culture
  • Prioritize the long-term strength of the organization over personal ego or organizational politics

Strong clubs are built collectively.
